This photo series documents Lewis Boxing Gym in Springfield, Missouri, where Howell Lewis has been training boxers since 1983. I don’t have a background in boxing, so I approached the project as an outsider, drawn to the physical environment and the routines that shape it.
The gym is full of details that reflect years of use—taped-up bags, cracked leather gloves, handwritten notes on the walls. I wanted to capture the texture of the space and the focus of the people who train there. The work is repetitive and demanding, and it leaves a clear imprint on both the gym and the fighters.
This project is my way of observing and recording a world very different from my own—one built on discipline, movement, and physical presence.
